Ear Infections

I have a toddler that will be three in a few months and he has experienced ear infection after ear infection. When, he was a year old - we had to have tubes put in his ears. That was a frightening thought to me - that my little guy was gonna have to go thru surgery. The surgeon was great and the procedure was quick. There wasn't really any down time for him either. The scariest part of it was waking up groggy not knowing where he was. We were advised the tubes would fall out on their own in about 6 months. That they did!

The ear infections started reoccurring once again. Back on antibiotics! Missing work! Still having to pay for daycare; even when he wasn't there.

So, back to the ENT doctor. Once again, surgery was scheduled. He would have to have his second set of tubes. This time the tubes were a little bit bigger and would last up to two years.

Well, once again - my son has an ear infection. The worst one he has ever had. Lots of drainage just seeping out of his ear; with ear pain. Took him to the pediatrician - who advised me his tubes were working and that he'd be worse off without them. Also, prescribed ear drops, Augmentin and Tylenol w/Codeine for the pain.

It seems to me - he's still in the same misery he was with or without the tubes.

What is your opinion? Do you have any home remedies you use?
